Herbal Tea for Adrenal Fatigue

Image: Bino Storyteller Last week I went into some detail about Adrenal Fatigue, and how exhausting the condition can feel. So many of the patients who walk through my clinic door require adrenal support to help manage their full & stressful lives.

There are many nutrition and lifestyle ways to support your adrenals, and one that I like to recommend is sipping on super healthy, immune-boosting teas throughout the day.

This tea recipe from Cauldrons and Cupcakes is wonderful - it contains great adaptogenic and adrenal-supporting herbs and extracts.

One note of caution - if you suffer from high blood pressure, avoid the liquorice root (it can have an adverse effect). Simply brew the tea without it.

Adrenal-Boosting Herbal Tea

Ingredients:

  • 6 pieces of raw dried liquorice root
  • 6 slices of fresh ginger root
  • 2 or 3 thin slices of fresh turmeric root (or a pinch of two of dried turmeric powder)
  • Pinch of Himalayan or Celtic salt
  • Pinch of stevia
  • 1 lemon

Turmeric has a tendency to stain things yellow, so don’t use your best teapot!

If your immune system needs a bigger boost - for instance, if you feel like you're coming down with a cold - feel free to add more turmeric and ginger.

Directions:

There are numerous options for brewing tea - pick the method that works best for you!

Option #1:

Place the liquorice, ginger and turmeric in a teapot or thermos that holds one litre (4 cups).

Let steep for ten minutes. It will go a very pretty shade of yellow.

Strain roots from hot liquid.

Option #2:

Bring licorice, ginger and turmeric to the boil in a medium-sized sauce pan on the stove, in 4 cups of water.

Turn off the heat and let steep for ten minutes. (This produces a stronger tea.)

Strain roots from hot liquid.

To finish:

Add the pinch of salt, the pinch of stevia (to taste), and a good squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
