A Day of Detox: Breakfast
Spring is a wonderful time to take on healthy eating, cleansing, and detoxing - provided you do it the healthy way. My super inspiring peers, Julie Daniluk and Joy McCartney have developed incredible detox programs that cleanse and clean the body, without depriving you of any essential nutrients.
This week I'll lay out a week's worth of detoxifying eating - my favourite recipes from both books for breakfast, 10 am smoothie, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner.
Let's start with breakfast - this quinoa muesli is wonderful given all the cold weather we've been having, and is loaded with healthy, plant-based protein to keep you satisfied all morning long.
Warming Quinoa Muesli from Julie Daniluk
- 1/2 cup rolled quinoa flakes
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 tbs hemp hearts
- 1 tsp coconut butter or oil
- 2 tsp raw honey
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp cardamom
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- pinch of sea salt
Topping options: pumpkin seeds, coconut flakes
Place all ingredients into a bowl or wide mouth stainless steel thermos if you want to travel with your breakfast.
Pour boiling water over the ingredients and stir.
Let sit for 2 minutes and add extra toppings if desired.
